Whereas the debut album was largely born out of improvisation and jam sessions, Ruination is the fruit of two years of careful composing and arranging work, taking control of the chaos. The band describe their music as an appreciation of the ideas and overall mentality of experimental pop musicians of the 60s and 70s, combined with a modern approach and original musical vision. Titled Ruination, the album will be released by Svart Records in February 2017 on CD, double LP and digital. Since then the band has performed at various large festivals and meticulously written the new album. Despite the lack of a physical release the album found itself on many a best albums of the year -list in 2014. Debut album Ujubasajuba already knocked the planet off its orbit, even though it was done as a DIY Bandcamp release. fingers crossed!Ġ1 “tokyo flashback p.s.f.Progressive shoegazing? Īdobo has been called the quintessential Philippine stew, served with rice both at daily meals and at feasts. It may also be further browned in the oven, pan-fried, deep-fried, or even grilled to get crisped edges. Other ingredients can sometimes be used like siling labuyo, bird's eye chili, jalapeño pepper, red bell pepper, olive oil, onions, brown sugar, potatoes, or pineapple. The amount and thickness of the sauce also varies as some like their adobo dry while some like it saucy. The proportion of ingredients like soy sauce, bay leaves, garlic, or black pepper can vary. Īdobong dilaw ("yellow adobo"), which uses kalawag ( turmeric) to provide the yellow colouring as well as adding in a different flavour, can be found in Batangas, the Visayas, and Mindanao regions. It is similar to another dish known as pinatisan, where patis (fish sauce) is used instead of vinegar. Adobong puti is often regarded as the closest to the original version of the prehispanic adobo. Ī rarer version without soy sauce is known as adobong puti ("white adobo"), which uses salt instead, to contrast it with adobong itim ("black adobo"), the more prevalent versions with soy sauce. Even people in the same household can cook adobo in significantly different ways. Almost every ingredient can be changed according to personal preference. The most basic ingredient of adobo is vinegar, which is usually coconut vinegar, rice vinegar, or cane vinegar (although sometimes white wine or cider vinegar can also be used). There are numerous variants of the adobo recipe in the Philippines. It was traditionally cooked in small clay pots ( palayok or kulon) but today, metal pots or woks ( kawali) are largely used instead. Typically, pork or chicken, or a combination of both, is slowly cooked in vinegar, crushed garlic, bay leaves, black peppercorns, and soy sauce. While the Philippine adobo can be considered adobo in the Spanish sense-a marinated dish-the Philippine usage is much more specific to a cooking process (rather than a specific recipe) and is not restricted to meat. Dishes prepared with vinegar, garlic, salt (later soy sauce), and other spices eventually came to be known solely as adobo, with the original term for the dish now lost to history. In modern Visayan, guinamós and dayok refer to separate dishes. Other terms for precolonial adobo-like dishes among the Visayan peoples are dayok and danglusi. In the 1711 Visayan dictionary Vocabulario de la lengua Bisaya, the term guinamus (verb form: gamus) was used to refer to any kind of marinades ( adobo), from fish to pork. In the 1794 edition of the Vocabulario, it was applied to quilauìn ( kinilaw) a related but different dish which also primarily uses vinegar. However, the concept of cooking adobo already existed long before the arrival of the Spanish in 1521. The Spanish also applied the term adobo to any native dish that was marinated before consumption. He referred to it as adobo de los naturales (" adobo of the native "). It was first recorded in the 1613 dictionary Vocabulario de la lengua tagala compiled by the Spanish Franciscan missionary Pedro de San Buenaventura. When the Spanish Empire colonized the Philippines in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, they encountered the adobo cooking process. They are also related to cooking techniques like sinigáng and pinangát na isdâ that also have a sour broth, albeit using fruits like calamansi, tamarind, unripe mangoes, bilimbi, santól, and star fruit as souring agents instead of vinegar. It is believed that paksíw, sangkutsá, and adobo are all derivations of kiniláw. There are four main traditional cooking methods using vinegar in the Philippines: kiniláw (raw seafood in vinegar and spices), paksíw (a broth of meat with vinegar and spices), sangkutsá (pre-cooked braising of meat in vinegar and spices), and finally adobo (a stew of vinegar, garlic, salt/soy sauce, and other spices). The major difference is that single-use batteries output 1.5 volts when first used and end below 1.0 volts, whilst rechargeable NiMH batteries maintain an average of 1.2 volts for most of the time. So throughout the time the batteries are used, single-use batteries’ average output is 1.2 volts, similar to that of rechargeable NiMH batteries. The exception being PP3 9 volt block size battery, and some specialist security batteries, which can be higher depending on the size and type of battery.Īs single-use batteries are consumed, the voltage reduces. Standard size single-use batteries usually have a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts whilst rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts. RETURN TO TOP What is the difference in voltage between rechargeable batteries and single-use batteries? See the FAQ on voltage for more information. There may be some devices where rechargeable batteries may not be suitable, for example some brands of DAB radios where four or six batteries are used in series, and the voltage difference between NiMh rechargeable batteries and standard alkaline batteries can cause poor performance. The main benefits are that after the initial investment they will save you money as you can reuse those batteries hundreds of times and they have the added benefit of helping the environment by saving raw materials and avoiding the waste of single-use batteries which may eventually end up in land-fill. In most situations, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries can replace (single-use) primary batteries, especially for high drain electronic devices. RETURN TO TOP Can I use rechargeable batteries in devices that use single-use or alkaline batteries? Common rechargeable battery types include nickel metal hydride (NiMH), nickel cadmium (NiCd) and lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries. Rechargeable batteries can be recharged and reused from 500 to 1000 times depending on usage. Common primary battery types include alkaline, carbon zinc, lithium, silver oxide and zinc air batteries. He often works and splits the day's earnings with his quick-tempered partner and fellow fox, Finnick. Big ever again.īy the start of the film, Nick appears to be well-off, claiming to have made $200 on a daily basis since the age of twelve (though the accuracy of these claims is questionable). Feeling disrespected, Nick was turned away and was told to never show his face around Mr. At some point, Nick was involved with selling him a very expensive wool rug that turned out to be made from the fur of a skunk's butt. Big took a liking to the fox, welcoming him into his home and even introducing him to his grandmother, who made him a cannoli. Chief Bogo also displayed this behavior when Officer Judy Hopps, at one point, called Nick forth as a key witness for her case Bogo unabashedly scoffed at the idea of a fox being trustworthy enough to have its voice heard, thus refusing to listen to his testimony.Īt some point while operating as a con artist, Nick fell in with Mr. Some of these instances include Nick's interaction with the prejudiced Jerry Jumbeaux, Jr., who specifically states that he has the right to refuse service to anyone, and abuses this power against Nick, openly due to the former's distrust towards foxes. This unjust treatment continued well throughout his lifetime, apparent during his adulthood shown in the film, which would only heighten Nick's cynicism. In addition, he declared that if the world viewed foxes as nothing more than sly, vile and untrustworthy scoundrels, he should not only accept it, but embrace it, subsequently doing so by becoming a successful con artist. After running outside to escape his tormentors, Nick tore off the muzzle and broke down in tears.Īs a result of this treatment, Nick vowed to never let them see that they got to him and, from that moment forward, hides himself behind a mask of sly confidence. Unfortunately, his "initiation" turned out to be a cruel hazing prank where young Nick was ridiculed, knocked to the ground and held down while being muzzled by the other scouts for being a fox (as foxes are considered untrustworthy). Though he was the only predator and only fox in the local troop, Nick believed that would not matter and attended his initiation with confidence and enthusiasm. When he was 8 or 9 years old, his mother scraped up enough money to buy a brand new scout uniform, giving him the opportunity to join a local troop. As a child, Nick had a dream to join the local Junior Ranger Scouts, as he always wanted to be part of a pack.
